Patinkin To Star in 'Wild Party'

NEW YORK (AP) - The guests have been signed for ``The Wild Party,'' a musical opening next year on Broadway. Toni Collette, Eartha Kitt and Mandy Patinkin will star in the show based on the Jazz Age poem by Joseph Moncure March. The musical, written by Michael John LaChiusa, will be directed by George C. Wolfe, who runs the Public Theater. Opening night is set for April 6 at the Virginia Theater. The production is the second ``Wild Party'' musical scheduled to play New York next year. Another version will open off-Broadway at Manhattan Theater Club in February, starring Taye Diggs. A 1975 movie, which starred Raquel Welch and James Coco, used the poem as the taking-off point for a different story - one about a Fatty Arbuckle-type comedian who gives a party to save his failing career. The real-life Arbuckle was prosecuted and acquitted when a young woman died after a drinking party during Prohibition.
